Irony of Life..!

on December 13, 2011

A taste for irony has kept more hearts from breaking than a sense of humor, for it takes irony to appreciate the joke which is on oneself…”- Jessamyn West

Have you ever aked yourself this question.. What’s the Biggest Irony of Life..??

We live in a World where every Soul’s purpose of existence is Being Happy.. Yes, Achieveing Happiness in itself is no small feat coz. Some People are Happily Content (devoid of aim & future outlook), Some by Love, Some by Just their existence (!!!), Some by Going on to Conquer all they have dreamt of & more.. Happiness, I dare say is not one thing nor one letter, its a collection of many.. but a Prominent feature & Letter in it, is the “I” right in the middle of it.

Now let’s come back to the IRONY, Even though everyone strives to be happy.. Why aren’t we always Happy? Herein lies my bit of its understanding.. Our Happiness is often derived from the Happiness or Unhappiness of others.., (For our Loved ones whom we care for, Their Happiness becomes Ours & Our Happiness becomes their source of Joy, The ones we hate, on the other hand or Compete with, are ALSO a reason of Our Happiness..!! Whenever they get a Blow or whenever something we think has rightfully happened to them, happens, we reinstate our faith in God & say Justice has Prevailed & be Happy..) In this Worldly dominion Happiness is defined like this, though am sure when asked.. NOT ONE of us would agree with me on the face of it.., but Deep down we all know that its the Truth..! but my Question to Myself & Others is this simply.. Is this Really Happiness?? At a time like this, when such a question is asked, scorching irony.., not convincing argument, is needed…

Happiness as i understand it, is a feeling of Inner Peace & Satisfaction. It is usually experienced when there are no worries, fears or obsessing thoughts, and this usually happens, when we do something we love to do or when we get, win, gain or achieve something that we value. It seems to be the outcome of positive events, but it actually comes from the inside, triggered by outer events. The Key Word here is “Inside”.

I’d like to iterate a joke which i heard today over the Radio, which made me smile when i heard it first, The joke was.. Santa asks Banta “How can a Man Eat a Mango after he has Climbed an Apple Tree?” Banta perplexed replies “Donno.. You tell!!” Santa Responds “He was carrying it in his Pocket before climbing the Apple tree” 😉

but when i asked myself philosophically.., i arrived to the following, In this simple joke what is evident is a fact of life.. Lets me explain it with a hypothesis, Assume the Apple tree to be our Routine Work/Life & Mango is our Passion, something that gives us Happiness.. Now this joke if we read again with these hypothesis would mean.. We have to Climb the Apple tree of our Work, Pluck Apples of our Working Rewards but that doesnt necessarily mean that We just Enjoy Plucking & Eating Apples the rest of Our Life.. We need our Passion shaped Mangoes to give us the Intrinsic Happiness that builds Moments which we Call Life. So What is the best way to Enjoy Eating the Mango after Climbing & Plucking from the Apple tree??

Answer is Simple.. On top of the Apple Tree, After Plucking your Apples (Finishing Work) You can Enjoy the Mango (Your Passion) Peacefully.. The Key here is Efficiency, in doing your Work, Providing yourself time barred goals that pushes you but doesn’t look like a burden. BALANCE here is the key.. after finishing the Work which we Often Complain calling Mundane or Boring. (This is what 80% of the times makes us drag things to the last minute, We Dont Complete Our Work on Time & then Whine about not getting time for what we want to do.. ) Yes, its Easier said than done, but Remember saying it in itself is attributing & accepting that it needs to be done.. Isnt that a first step in achieving it??

The ME time, doing what you love, Spending time doing what excites you or what you rejoice doing is the key.. So, as Katrina Kaif says in ZNMD.. “Seize the Day my Friend….” Do what you Love, Yes Following Daily rigourous routines to earn your livelihood is important.. but so is Spending what you’ve earned in terms of Material aspects as well as Experience is equally imporant… Live the Moment & Enjoy your Earthly Stay living life in your own terms, the way you want to & not just living life for Others..! & I dare say in caps “NOT JUST LIVING LIFE FOR OTHERS..” I also Understand.. We are all a Source of Happiness to Our Near & Dear ones.. depending on what our lives mean to them.. but Irony of Life isnt this.. it is simply trying to be Happy!! Why Try?? When the key to your Own Happiness rests in your own very hands! Dont try.. Be Happy. Treat it as a Choice not an Option..

Here are some ways that i think, upon implementation can give us Happiness:

1.     Smile..! 🙂

2.     Always Expect Happiness.

3.     Endeavour to change the way you look at things. Always look at the bright side. The mind may drag you to think about negativity and difficulties. Don’t let it. Look at the good and positive side of every situation, in short Always give the Others the Benefit of Doubt.

4.     Think of Solutions not Problems, Most of us stay wary of the Solution by being occupied in the Problem.

5.     Associate with happy people, and try to learn from them to be happy. Remember, happiness is contagious.

6.     Do not envy people who are happy. On the contrary, be happy for their happiness.

7.     Each day do something good for yourself. It can be something small, such buying a book, eating something you love, watching you favorite program on TV, going to a movie, or just having a stroll on the Park.

8.     Always Stay in Touch & try to be in the company of your Childhood & Best Freinds, No Matter how busy you are.. for these are the People in front of whom you can swear, abuse & share everything you want without thinking of what they will think of you. It will not only keep you Happy but also Forever Young… 😉

9.     Each day do at least one act to make others happy. This can be a kind word, helping your colleagues, stopping your car at the crossroad to let people cross, giving your seat in a bus/metro to someone else, or giving a small present to someone you love. The possibilities are infinite. When you make someone happy, you become happy, and then people try to make you happy.

Many People think & say “Let me first be somebody, Financially strong, have a name for myself, then i will plan & do things that bring me Eternal Happiness, but right now my Goals are different.” Hey Hey Hey.. if your Goals are different, Brilliant, coz. Once you achieve them Happiness will automatically come.. but tell me again, ARE YOU HAPPY?? No.. Why? Because we set goals too far ahead of us & all our Prime is lost in Persuasion of it.. Do we have time to Spend a Candid Moment with a Loved one or enjoy the Naughtiness of Our Child?? Working our ass off, trying to do things that don’t please us like a machine wouldn’t lead to Happiness & i Quote.. “A tragic irony of life is that we so often achieve success or financial independence after the chief reason for which we sought it has passed away.”- Ellen Glasgow

The small acts of Behaving like a Kid, Cracking Jokes, Having a Romantic Candle lit Dinner with a Loved one, Holding Hands, Looking at a Friend in the eye & being able to explain things & understanding things without saying a word.., Feeling Proud of doing something can bring a Smile, A Laugh & ignite the Happiness within us. “Do what you Love, Love What you do” & Happiness derived from such Hard work will not only pay you monetarily but also emotionally by making you Happy.

So, Do What you want while the Fire is burning within you.. that is the Real Happiness!!

Most of us would be upset If we were accussed of being “Silly”.. The Word “Silly” comes from the old English word “seilig” and it’s literal definition is “to be blessed , happy, healthy and prosperous.”~Zig Ziglar

So To all my Readers, Friends & Loved Ones.. Always Remember the “Silly” in you.. & You’ve Overcome the Greatest Irony of Life.. God Bless! 🙂

    Excellent thoughts 🙂
I have often noticed that when we chase happiness, our thoughts become focused on the chase, and the happiness of little moments goes away unnoticed while we keep on crying over the hardships of the chase.
