Movie Review: Brothers

hqdefault

Went to watch ‪#‎Brothers‬ (the Indian Adaptation of ‪#‎Warriors‬) yesterday. Karan Malhotra’s blessed with a good casting as Akshay Kumar & Sidharth Malhotra are perfect for their roles. What the Director has conveniently forgotten inspite of increasing the screen time is the detailing of the Sub Plots and has left most of it to be in auto understand mode by the viewer. Shefali shah plays a pivotal small role and enacts the varying emotions well.. Jacqueline fernandez has a small role too and she has improved in her acting skills evidentally.

All in All Jackie shroff, Akshay kumar & Sidharth malhotra carry it well. The Actions sequences are Nice and their Contrasting Styles of MMA have been shown well too. The Kareena Kapoor Khan Song is a Total Waste of Time and is disgustingly choreographed and its almost right before the interval.. so queue up for refreshments a little early to avoid the queue tongue emoticon. The Music is plain ordinary, and Sapna jahan and the brother’s anthem are the only ones which are listenable. The Screenplay & visualization of Sapna Jahan song has been done wonderfully though, all credit to the director.

All in all.. a Decent One Time watch and is definitely not as bad as the critics have made it to be.. but nowhere close to the original in terms of gripping screenplay.

Movie Review: Heer and Hero !!

IMG_20131021_163947

This is a Honest Confession, This is My 1st Experience of Watching a Punjabi Film.. till date in a Theatre! And I Have No Qualms in admitting it was because of Minissha Lamba in its Starcast that i decided to watch it in the 1st Place.

All Right Now Let’s come to the Performances.. Gurpreet Ghugghi and Aaryan Babbar were in Their Elements, Each Packing a Punch both in terms of Dialogue Delivery as well as Essaying Comic Lines. Aaryan Babbar Runs albeit funnily too.. whcih was kinda strange in a Good Action scene but i guess it goes with the Movie at Large. it was a Romantic Comedy..

Preet Bhullar is unknown Commodity to me, but he looked alright and did his bit as one of the Heroes well too. Manoj Pahwa had a Small Role too but was Good fun watching him etch it on-screen.

Mukul Dev was a Wonderful Half Inspector Uniform Half Jeans wearing Cop dishing out Salman Khan’s Dialogues in Punjabi, but was Fun. Yograj Singh ji, Father of Yuvraj Singh who recently played Farhan Akhtar’s Coach in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, here Essayed Minissha’s Father’s Role.. as a Tough Rich and Influential Punjabi Villager well, albeit in a Short role again.

The Whole Show was about Geet aka Heer in the Film essayed Brilliantly by Minissha Lamba, She Plays the Sometimes Naive, Sometimes Naughty and Sometimes Intelligent but Always Very Beautiful Girl Perfectly…

The Music was Surprisingly Good too.. “Dil Naal Dil” sung By Sonu Niigam is the pick of the Lot and Beautifully Pictured too and “Ullu Da Patha” is a Catchy Danceable track as well.

Surprisingly the Regional Film has an Item song too performed by Hazel Keech of Bodyguard fame who was recently evicted from Bigg Boss house too.

Expect Witty One-Liners like “Gareebon Da Ashutosh Rana”, “Gareebon Da Vijay Mallaya” dished out at Critical points in the Movie which sure will make you Laugh.

Its a Nice Feel Good Romantic Comedy for the Entire Family and definitely Worth a Watch atleast once.

For Minissha Fans, You wouldnt mind watching it Twice too.. 😉

Have Fun..

Movie Review: Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobaara

I Watched Once Upon a Time In Mumbai Dobaara, and the Expectations were built up with the Title “Once Upon a time in Mumbaai” its Prequel, as the title suggests.

Akshay Kumar carried forward the Menacing Emraan Hashmi’s name from the Previous movie. The Latter was Lethal and His eyes and Arrogance spoke far more, while Akshay retorts to Cheesy but Well Written Lines and Keeps uttering himself as “The Raavan” or “The Villain”

The Shoaib in this Franchise is a Big Powerful Man, and a lot of his sequences have been Beautifully shot in Oman but what kinda doesn’t add up is why he doesn’t behave like the Biggest Don and Most Wanted of India, He goes on to jump Slums and kill a Possible informer on his own, Which Big don would do that? I wonder..

Coming to the Performances:

Akshay Kumar is Excellent in his Avatar, but i feel the Writing is More at Fault and while trying to make the Villain, a Demi God like for all his Entourage, the Character kind of Nose Dips. On One hand everyone is shown as Darn Scared of him and on the Other he Thrashes Film sets on his own, Hand fights when he can kill with a Gun. Weird…

Imran Khan is average, He kinda looks in his shell or all at sea at some scenes, but Whilst Romancing he seems more at Ease. His Fans though shouldnt feel disappointed

Sonakshi sinha plays an actress and Both Imran and Akshay’s Love Interest, Dont know how they arrived to her Casting coz. Imran-sonakshi Pairing looked mighty Odd to my Eyes! She plays her role well though, but the Writing doesn’t make it Clear how she Opts for the One.. and more importantly Why?

The Film’s writing was Flawed for me, and the Saving Grace of the film are the Cheesy Dialogues and One-liners that are an Integral Part of the Film through out.

The Biggest Minus is the Expectations the Title Brings in with itself, if the Film was made under another title and the theme was clearly depicted it would have been better, Here Ajay Devgn’s Eyes dont talk, there is no thehraav as they say, in Akshay’s Performance. Even Emraan and Imran are no match for each other, Emraan excelled playing the Dawood like Baddie, Imran just doesnt have the Menace in his Face or Acting of being an Aspiring Don or his Right hand.

All in All the Film is Enjoyable if you have Nothing Better to do, as a Light Hearted Action-Comedy-Gangster flick, but Dont go in with Expectations of the Brilliant Last film with the Similar title from the same Production house.

Music could have been Better, Only two songs are hummable: Ye Tune Kya kiya and Modern Version of Tayyab Ali, Infact the Last 2-3 songs of the Film could easily be done away with, as they are neither a Part of the Story nor Good, so unnecessarily drag the Movie.

Watch it For Akshay’s Flamboyant Don Act and Cheesy One Liners, If these don’t interest you, Better Give this one a Miss.

😉

Rating: 2.5 Stars on 5

Movie Review: Jism 2

Jism, as a Film Franchise is one of the Better Part Seductive Part Erotic Thrillers for a Mainstream Adult Audience. Jism 2 from its Promos gave the impression that it will take the seduction to another level.. with the incredibly Curvy & Beautiful Indian Origin Adult Actress- SUNNY LEONE!

Jism 2’s Plot isnt too bad, Sunny Leone has minimal inhibitions in showing her well endowed curves & moves, The Music is Pretty Good too..

What the Movie lacks is the Execution.  Pooja Bhatt yet again disappoints as a Director, she Doesnt do Justice with any of the Actor’s Abilities although is able to catch some Good Moments on Camera- Probably the only Saving Grace of the Film.

I dont give Away the Plot while Reviewing a Film as a Principle, but here are some Pro’s & Con’s of the Film for me!

Pro’s Biggest USP is Sunny Leone, enought to drive in Male Audiences across India to see the Siren in a Theater instead of Downloading her Previous Works of Art. The Music is a Respite with “Abhi-abhi” and “Maula” the Pick of the Lot! Randeep Huda delivers good screen presence as a cynical but crazy lover. Sunny Leone shows bits of Ability to act & is Prob. one of the Prettier Actresses capable of strutting Bikinis, Backless or just wearing sheets and oozing Oomph with Ease.  (Most Bollywood Actresses with the Exception of Mallika or to an extent Bipasha.. try doing it but dont look too comfortable) That’s where i think Sunny has created a niche for herself in the Hindi Film Industry.

Con’s Arunoday Singh and Arif Zakaria look incompetent in most of their screen space, showing very Bad Casting. Arunoday singh is Well built Man but strongly needs improvement in Dialogue delivery & showing Emotional Outbursts, infact in one scene when he was crying, i almost burst out laughing, that’s how unreal it was! Arif Zakaria is just Plain Bad. The Dialogues arent great either, normally a Bhatt stronghold. Only a Few by Randeep Huda worthwhile. The Dubbing Artist for Sunny, whoever she was, looked like an amatuer and mostly made a fool of Sunny, Plus the Heavy Breathing in almost all Scenes, Obviously a Pooja Bhatt’s maverick idea to titilate the audience with her leading lady’s well endowed Actress caught me by the Nerves. Weird as it may appear, Sunny’s shown pukin and both before and after that scene she’s shaking it as though she can hardly Breathe. It almost made me say.. WTF? the Build up to the Thriller wasnt Bad but the end Execution was not Good at all. Perhaps something to Learn from Sujoy Ghosh’s “Kahaani” another Woman Oriented Thriller but with a Good End execution.

All in All, I’d say “Jism2” is a letdown, if u compare it to the Original Film of the Franchise, which had a Fine Mix of Seduction, Story and Acting. But, The Presence of Sunny, its Music and Randeep’s Occasional Outburst of Good Acting, along with Brilliant Locales in Sri Lanka make it a One time watch esp. for Men.

On a Scale out of 5.. I’d give it 2 Stars, sheerly for the above mentioned reasons.

Had the Same Film been Edited Better with an Out of the Box Ending: i wud have surely given it a 3, but Ms. Bhatt clearly has no intentions of doing that. she wanted to titilate the audience with a 5 Character film (Yes, The Film only has 5 characters in the Film), Also the Film would have been made on a Paper Thin Budget, So am sure it’ll be a Big Hit in terms of Gross Revenues, but wudnt do anything great in the film careers of Randeep, Arunoday or Pooja Bhatt as a film Maker either, it  May Put sunny amongst the Top Seductresses of Bollywood with Competition from the Likes of Mallika sherawat though..

So, A Note to Men, if you have nothing better to do this weekend, u may chose to watch it : but be reminded watch it with ur Good Guy Buddies so that u can have fun, chat up or laugh about when the story gets boring and doesnt have any action, if u know what i mean! 😉

Agneepath (2012)- Movie Review

“Agneepath” in one word is Disturbingly Good! The Classical Cult Remake impresses.. Hrithik delivers a Stellar Performance, Packs a Punch with Just his Facial Expressions & intensity, & doesnt need Dialogues to Deliver it.. Speaks Volumes of his Acting Abilities & Provess. Priyanka is Good in her Small but Bubbly Role, but Sanjay Dutt is OMG’ly Scary & its been over 2 decades that i’ve seen a film with such a Strong Negative role by anyone, he looks deviantly menacing from Scene 1 right till the End in his 60 odd minute Screen space out of the 180 odd minutes.  Best Performance for a Negative Role in a Decade or more. Biblical Goliath reminded (sic). Take a Bow. Period. Rishi’s 1st attempt at Negative side that i’ve seen is Brilliant too!! Rauf Lala is not your Routine Bad Guy & Rishi dawns the skin of the Bad Guy absolutely fantastically!!
Those who would still compare it to the yesteryear Big B starrer “Agneepath”.. I’d say the Poetic Verse is the same, the Lead Character’s name is same, so is his father’s & family & Main Villain’s but everyone else is different. No Mithun wala Character here, New Characters of Kaali (Priyanka) & Rauf Lala (Rishi).. The Underlying Plot of Revenge & Avenging the Father’s Brutally Coldblooded Murder is same.. BUT, the way the story unfolds & script all together different, The Emotional Screenplay & Various sides of the Lead Charcters is Excellent! So Stop Comparing & Watch the Modern Day David v/s Goliath like story in an Indianized Revenge angle & Enjoy.. but be foretold A Lot of Bloodshed & Brutality in it. Would Rate it 3.5 stars on 5! My Prediction: this shall be Hrithik’s Debut in the 100 crore+ segment… 😉 Sureshot Winner!!
Only Downside is Music but hey with Chikni Katrina around & Power Packed performance by everyone, one can easily discount that!

Top Hindi Movie Picks & Misses of 2011 according to me

Following are my favourite Hindi films that released in 2011

1. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara:

Zoya Akhtar sure is a maverick, to come up with this highly unusual story. The Film for me, is a Modern Day Classic & will always remember this movie fondly & as a movie that I can Watch anyday anytime of the week. Brilliant Locales in Scenic Spain, Superb Comic timing, Farhan, Abhay, Hrithik, Katrina, Kalki & Naseeruddin simply create Magic & put life in their characters. Not only does the film entertain but it also makes you learn a very important lesson of life add to it, Superb yet Different Music, The Superb shayari’s essayed by Farhan akhtar are tastefully gracious & noteworthy. I esp. loved “Suraj ki Baahon mein” & “Der Lagi Lekin”. The sumtotal of it all with Visually brilliant thrills undertaken by the Central character makes this the Best Film of the year for me.

2. Rockstar:

Imtiaz Ali, time & again has shown that he is an unconventional yet brilliant story teller, we have witnessed it right from Socha Na tha to Jab we Met to Love aaj kal & now Rockstar.  AR Rahman’s music & Mohit Chauhan’s music is top notch. The Movie also well & truly establishes the metal of Ranbir Kapoor’s acting ability, am Pretty sure RK will walk away with top Honours in all Award functions this year thanks to Rockstar. The film showcases the delusional youth, the Price of Fame & more importantly finding & losing True Love with effervescent ease brilliantly portrayed by its central characters. “Tum Ho” is the Best track of the year & “Katiya Karun” is very croonable.

3. The Dirty Picture:

Milan Luthria, has traditionally done different cinema & genre’s quite effectively but with The Dirty Picture, he shows a side of a storyteller that’s sensitive & sensible, a unique combination. Vidya Balan is the Life & Soul of the Film, she essays the role of a Sex Symbol Dancer of South Indian Cinema as though Silk is her, not only does she dare to bare but she also proves the Point, that Brilliant actors can Portray anything, if they want to albeit their traditional image & comfort zone may be someplace else. Vidya is the Hero as we call it & overshadows all the other Male actors not just by Screen space but by Bold Brilliant acting abilities, Emraan Hashmi downplays his character wonderfully too. Amongst the Music “Ishq Sufiyana” is superb & “Ooh La la” titillates well.

Other Films worthy of Mention in my picks of the year are (in no particular order): Pyar ka Punchnama, Dum Maaro Dum, Force, Tanu Weds Manu, Don 2, Mere Brother ki Dulhan, Delhi Belly, Ladies V/s Ricky Behl, No One Killed Jessica, Yamla Pagla Deewana, Singham…. (am sure i havent picked all), so etc. will be handy 😉

The Films I resent Watching this year are: Rascals, Chatur Singh 2 star, Double dhamaal, Ra.One, Bodyguard, Patiala House… (am sure I haven’t mentioned all here either) so etc. again 😉

One Film that was Slammed by Critics & didnt do too well even in terms of numbers, is Hum Tum Shabana, but i wouldnt keep it in either of the categories because of my Personal Bias & Love for the Leading Lady~ Minissha Lamba, who was adorable & gorgeous as Shabana in an otherwise Poor Directorial attempt by Sagar Bellary. Here’s a star who deserves her place at the top for good & am sure she’ll get there really soon. 🙂

Movie Review: Don 2

Slick, Stylish & Suave words best used to describe DON2. The Tease, The Chase & The Masterplan.. All Very Crisply done & Brilliantly executed! For me, Farhan gives Don an all new meaning, Don is Charming, Mad & All that jazz! The film’s soul is with SRK in mind & SRK ONLY! Boman & Priyanka are Good but dont have much of a Screen Space, Kunal Kapoor & Lara Dutta are Effective in the Small Role! Sahil Shroff is for namesake & Om Puri is offered a surprisingly Small Role which doesnt quite do Justice to the Veteran’s abilities. The Movie is Quick with Lots of Plots & Counter plots, Few Glitches not withstanding. The film continues to show SRK as Don who is flamboyant & Ruthless.. that’s the crux of it..!! All SRK fans, Go Watch it twice, You’d love it. Others like me.., it is still a Pretty Good Watch the Ticket is Full Paisa Wasool with Superb Action & Car Chase Sequence..

I’ll say its a Good Watch & Would rate it as a Good 3.5 stars on 5 & Think SRK & Farhan Akhtar have a Winner in Hand & will Rake the Moolah for a Slick Thrill ride 😉

Movie Review- “Ladies v/s Ricky Behl”

I’d  honestly say i Abhor stupid remakes of Already Popular Cinema & thank god that LVRB isnt an over the top remake of “John Tucker must die”! it looks similar but, YES, its a Different film.. the Plot looks similar coz. of 3 women plotting against him & setting up a 4th to get even with him after the former suffer a con on them., but the good point is that the film is unabashed & straight to the point! Money is all it is…….. The Lead is an otherwise Good guy. only after their Money.. not intrested to take advantage of them!!

All the Lead Characters are apt at their bits.. Ranveer Singh makes a sincere effort & even showcases his newfound chiseled body.. (Ladies 😉 ) but to be honest his weakpoints are a daft timid voice & Very Avg looks (So Projecting him as a ladykiller is a tad too Imaginative), Parineeti chopra as a Loud Delhiite Punjabi impresses on debut (but again not a looker), Dipannita sharma as the savvy smart business woman is the best of the lot, Aditi Sharma passes with brownie points for cuteness!

Anushka sharma.. the supposed crowdpuller comes near the interval & is Jovial in her bit, briefly titilates too.. but the non existential accent to play a rich NRI is a big err! the Plot is savvy & narration is good! so all in all.. the Viewer may feel conned for his money at first but will get even with the makers by the time it Ends!! 😉

HighPoints: Plot, Story Telling, Dipannita sharma

LowPoints: Music, Avg. Characterization of Pivotal charcters

So For me: 3 on 5..
